To be considered for the International Master’s Award of Excellence, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be registered full-time and paying international tuition fees.
- Enroll in research-based programs (thesis or major research paper).
- Be in their first term of the graduate program (term 1.0).
- Demonstrate academic excellence based on the Faculty’s established criteria.
- Maintain academic progress and fulfill all admission requirements of the program.
- Not concurrently receive foreign government or agency sponsorship or be fully or partially self-funded in excess of the Faculty’s minimum levels of support.
- Students previously awarded an International Master’s Award (IMSA) for a previously completed master’s degree are not eligible, but they may be nominated for the International Master’s Award of Excellence (IMAE).

Each Faculty/Department will define its internal process for selecting recipients based on the eligibility criteria and award allocation.
