Carleton University is inviting applications from West African women who are PhD and early doctoral career scholars to participate in a research acceleration experience. The university, in collaboration with Universities Canada and the International Research Development Centre (IDRC) through the Rideau Hall Foundation, is offering the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship for Advanced Scholars from West Africa (QES-AS-WA) program. This initiative aims to promote gender equality and address Sustainable Development Goal 5.
Program Details and Focus Areas
The program, titled “Wurin ta na yin rubutu – Her own room to write,” will run until October 2024. It is open to West African women who are in the final stages of their PhD program, postdoctoral researchers, and early career academics affiliated with institutions. This opportunity is exclusively open to women applicants from West African countries, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
Applicants must fit into one of the following career levels:
- Doctoral Researcher: In the dissertation stage of their PhD
- Post-doctoral Researcher: Conducting research after completing a PhD
- Early Career Researcher: Has a PhD and demonstrated independent research experience
Benefits and Expectations
Selected scholars will have access to Carleton University’s library resources and participate in workshops to enhance their research skills. The scholarship covers mobility expenses, accommodation, research placement costs, travel, and health insurance. Scholars are expected to share their gained knowledge with their home institutions and communities, write a Scholar Narrative Report, and join the QE Scholars network. Publications resulting from the scholarship will be hosted on the IDRC’s institutional digital library.
Application Process and Contact
