2024 ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship in Switzerland

The ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship invites applications from both domestic and international students seeking admission to the University’s Master’s degree programs. The number of scholarships awarded annually depends on the availability of funds.
Applications undergo evaluation by the Admissions Committees of the respective Master’s programs. The final decision for awarding scholarships through the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme rests with the Rector of ETH Zurich. The exact number of scholarships is contingent upon fund availability, and decisions are communicated by the end of March.

Value & Duration of Award:
The Excellence Scholarship/ESOP comprises a scholarship covering living and study expenses (CHF 12,000 per semester) and a tuition fee waiver. ESOP is granted for the regular duration of the Master’s program (three or four semesters), and this also applies to the tuition fee waiver. Only ETH Bachelor students may initiate the ESOP with a leave of absence.

Eligibility: To be considered for the ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship, applicants must have:
- Very good results in the Bachelor’s degree program (top 10% of Bachelor’s degree program = grade A).
- Ensure availability under the specified telephone number in your CV, as the selection process might include a phone/VC interview in February.
- If already enrolled in a Master’s degree program at ETH Zurich or hold a Master’s degree, you are not eligible for ESOP.

Required Documents: To apply for the ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship, candidates must be prepared to submit the following documents and follow the stated instructions:
- In addition to the documents for Master admission, a pre-proposal for the master’s thesis needs to be uploaded.
- The pre-proposal for the master’s thesis must be developed by the applicant and use established scientific citation practice.
- Plagiarism, negligent, or intentional misinformation may lead to exclusion from the admission process or, if discovered later, to the revocation of admission and any scholarship. If the study program does not ask for references, two reference persons (professors) must be named for the ESOP application.
