Eligibility Criteria for Chevening Scholarship
To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
- Return requirement: Commit to returning to their country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after completing the scholarship.
- Academic qualification: Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that enables them to gain admission to a postgraduate program at a UK university. The degree should be equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honors degree in the UK.
- Work experience: Possess a minimum of two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience.
- Course selection: Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and secure an unconditional offer from one of these choices by August 2023.
Ineligibility for Chevening Scholarship
Applicants are ineligible for a Chevening Scholarship if they:
- Hold British or dual British citizenship, except for citizens of British Overseas Territories or BN(O) holders applying from Hong Kong.
- Hold refugee status in a non-Chevening eligible country. However, applicants with refugee status in a Chevening-eligible country remain eligible.
- Are employees, former employees, or relatives of employees (since July 2017) of Her Majesty’s Government or staff members of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
- Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship.
