The African Graduate Fellowship is a prestigious program designed for bright and highly motivated African students seeking a master’s degree at The American University in Cairo (AUC). This competitive fellowship offers an opportunity for full-time study, supporting scholars from African countries (excluding Egyptians) in any of the graduate programs available at AUC.
Fellowship Duration and Review
The American University in Cairo Fellowship extends over a maximum duration of five semesters and one intervening summer session. A periodic review each semester ensures sustained academic excellence. For participants in the Counseling Psychology graduate program, this duration may be extended to a maximum of seven semesters.

Value & Duration of Award
The fellowship includes support for:
- Tuition fees (up to nine credits per semester)
- Stipend
- Student services and activities fees
- Medical service and health insurance fees
- Monthly housing allowance or accommodation in University residences at the AUC New Cairo campus
- May cover remedial English language requirements
Eligible Countries: African Countries (Except Egypt)
Eligibility Criteria
- Non-Egyptian African nationals
- African nationals with dual non-African nationality are not eligible
- Open to all disciplines of graduate studies
- For new graduate degree-seeking students, admission to one of the graduate programs at AUC, satisfying AUC graduate admissions requirements
- Submit an International TOEFL iBT exam score or academic IELTS exam score, meeting the cut-off scores for AUC graduate admissions
- For continuing students, maintaining a GPA of 3.2 is required to retain the fellowship
Fellows’ Responsibilities
- Fellows are assigned 12 hours per week of related academic work
- Maintain a full-time student status
- Uphold a minimum GPA of 3.2
- Completion of mandatory training for Teaching Assistantship if involved in teaching assistantship duties.
