The Government of the Slovak Republic approved the establishment of the National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic in 2005 to support the mobility of students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists. The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (NSP) is financed by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport of the Slovak Republic from the state budget.

Scholarship Details:

The Government of the Slovak Republic National Scholarship Program offers fully funded scholarships for international students, available for Masters and PhD studies. The scholarship covers up to €734 monthly.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be considered for the scholarship, you must be:

1. University students at universities outside Slovakia, specifically students of the second level of higher education (master’s students) or students who, at the time of the application deadline, have already completed at least 2.5 years of their university studies in the same study programme.

2. Planning a study stay in Slovakia during your higher education outside Slovakia and have been accepted by a public, private, or state university in Slovakia for an academic mobility to study in Slovakia.

Eligible applicants for a scholarship in the framework of the NSP include:

A) PhD students whose higher education or scientific training takes place outside Slovakia and who are accepted by a public, private, or state university or a research institution in Slovakia eligible to carry out a doctoral study programme (e.g., the Slovak Academy of Sciences) for an academic mobility to study/conduct research/artistic stay in Slovakia.

B) International university teachers, researchers, and artists invited to a teaching/research/artistic stay in Slovakia by an institution with a valid certificate of eligibility to carry out research and development, which is not a business company and has its seat in Slovakia.

Scholarship Benefits:

The scholarship is intended to cover the living costs of international scholarship holders, including expenses related to staying in Slovakia (such as food and accommodation) during their study, research/artistic, or teaching stay at universities and research organizations in Slovakia. The scholarship holder can seek assistance regarding accommodation and formalities related to entering and staying in the territory of the Slovak Republic either from their host institution or handle all the necessities themselves.

Amount of the monthly scholarship:

•University student of the second level of higher education: €400

•PhD student: €734

1. Curriculum vitae

2. Motivation letter

3. Detailed study programme

4. Two recommendation letters issued by the applicant’s university teachers

5. Confirmation issued by the applicant’s home university, confirming that the applicant is a regular student of the respective university at the time of applying

6. Scan of the applicant’s bachelor’s diploma, diploma supplement, and state examination certificate (if applicable)

7. Admission/invitation letter issued by the applicant’s host university in Slovakia indicating the period of stay.
