The Mastercard Scholarship at the University of Pretoria will cover the full tuition fees, accommodation, meals, laptop, and living stipends of successful candidates for the duration of the Master’s program.

Scholarship Details:
The University of Pretoria (UP), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation (MCF), is currently offering scholarships for high-achieving African students interested in studying at the postgraduate level, commencing in 2024.
The MCFSP offers a full scholarship to selected students who have been provisionally admitted to study towards a postgraduate degree at UP. Graduates must return to their home countries upon completion of their studies and contribute to their communities.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) targets academically talented yet economically disadvantaged young people in Africa who will contribute to the continent’s transformation.
Recipients of the Mastercard Scholarship at the University of Pretoria are expected to utilize their knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values, as evidenced by their leadership experience, to make an impact in their immediate community.
Scholarship Requirements:
To be considered for the Mastercard Scholarship at the University of Pretoria, you must:
1. Be a citizen of Africa.
2. Come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and demonstrate financial need.
3. Demonstrate leadership potential and involvement in a giving-back project, such as within a community, school, church, etc.
4. Maintain high academic excellence, with students required to maintain a high academic average at all times.
Scholarship Benefits:
The Mastercard Scholarship at the University of Pretoria will commence in 2024 and will cover the following:

•Accommodation in a UP residence
•Meals
•Books and printed materials
•A modest monthly stipend
•Medical aid
•Travel costs (one return trip for the duration of the study period)
•Cost of one visa application for the duration of the study period

Postgraduate Study Programs:
1. Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences
2. Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences
3. Faculty of Humanities for entry into the BPolSci (Political Studies or International Studies only)
4. Honours and Masters degree applications will be accepted in the fields of Engineering (continuing students only).
Scholarship Application Process:
To apply for the Mastercard Scholarship at the University of Pretoria, interested and qualified candidates should follow the procedures below:
1. First, apply to secure admission to a postgraduate degree at the University of Pretoria.
2. Submit your application electronically to mcfsp@up.ac.za or deliver a printed copy to the Department for Education Innovation’s reception office.
3. Download and complete the hard copy of the postgraduate application form provided below: postgraduate-application-2024.pdf.
4. Your application will undergo a review process, and you will be notified of the outcome afterward.
5. Only successful applicants will be contacted for an interview.
